Personal Experience
Van Scott was ‘born and raised’ in Saint Louis, Missouri. His parents were hard working ‘blue collar’ people who always had some ‘small business’ venture of their own, from restaurants and bakeries to producing their own classic jazz labels and albums. He matriculated at DeAndreis High School where he received an academic/athletic scholarship to attend Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri – a Jesuit Institution. There he earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and immediately upon graduation was recruited into the insurance industry as a reinsurance underwriter, and later by AT&T as a marketing executive. After a meteoric rise in corporate America, he decided to attend law school at Southern University Law Center-Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree. There, Mr. Scott excelled in Moot Court competition and was recognized by the Louisiana Foundation for Law & Society, along with a select other few law students in the State of Louisiana. He was admitted the State Bar of Louisiana in 1988. He later moved to Atlanta Georgia where he was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 1992. Mr. Scott brings a wealth of business savvy to the table when representing his clients in negotiations or when litigating various sorts disputes whether they be business transactions amongst small, mid-sized and large corporations, or the assertion of claims against major corporations, insurance companies and financial institutions. He is very professional and largely respected amongst his peers as a lawyer of integrity and persuasiveness in and out of the courtroom. Mr. Scott has represented clients from Rome to Savannah, Georgia. He has been admitted to practice in various State and Federal courts, including Georgia, Texas and Louisiana. He made special appearances the Court of Chancery, Chicago, Illinois where he assisted mentor and ‘uncle,’ Ed Williams, Esq., CPA and attorney for superstars like the now deceased Bernie Mac.
Mr. Scott’s practice-area expertise spans a broad-spectrum of business law, contract law, employment law, personal injury/insurance law, banking, and immigration law.
